Is a 1TB unified memory chip coming from Apple anytime soon?
Delphi traders are split. One one hand, Apple now pitches its top desktop as a machine for running frontier-scale models locally – A 1TB chip would fit models that today need a cluster. However, it would have to arrive in the middle of a global memory shortage that has already forced Apple to pull its biggest configurations off the shelf once this year.
The market

The bar is an announcement, not a shipment. A chip revealed as "coming soon" counts. Rumors, leaks and supply-chain reports do not, and the threshold is memory capacity, not bandwidth. Settlement is handled by AI analyst models checking Apple Newsroom and Apple's Mac product pages.

The case for NO
The roadmap skips the window. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple will skip the M6 Pro and M6 Max. The M7 Pro and Max aren't expected until the end of 2027, and the next Ultra is the M7 Ultra in 2028. Every chip with a realistic shot at 1TB lands after this market closes.
There's nowhere else to put it. Apple dropped the Mac Pro in March 2026, leaving the Mac Studio as the top of the line. That machine was just refreshed.
Memory is scarce and expensive. Apple pulled the 512GB Mac Studio option in March and the 256GB option in May, according to Fello AI's tracking, and the M5 Ultra's 256GB upgrade alone costs $4,000. Even the new 512GB build doesn't ship until late October. MacRumors reported that Apple tested 768GB but that supply constraints could keep it off the menu, and they did.
The case for YES
The models have outgrown the machine. The biggest open-weight models now exceed 512GB. Kimi K3's weights alone run to roughly 1.56TB, and Apple is marketing the Mac Studio squarely at on-device AI. The demand for a bigger memory pool is real and public.
The headroom exists. Apple has already tested 768GB on the M5 Ultra. A mid-cycle memory bump, or an M7 schedule pulled forward, would get closer to 1TB than the current spec sheet suggests, and WWDC in June 2027 falls inside the window.
The server wildcard. Apple is building an in-house AI server chip, codenamed Baltra, with deployment reportedly starting in 2027. Apple rarely publicizes data-center silicon, though, and a chip built on stacked HBM may not read as "unified memory" to the settlement models.
What to watch
The market closes before Apple's reported high-end roadmap arrives, so YES needs a surprise.
Signals that would move this market are a 768GB or larger option appearing on the M5 Ultra, any report that the M7 Pro and Max are moving up to WWDC 2027, and any public Apple disclosure about Baltra. Absent one of those, the reporting points toward NO.
